What is Consciousness?
Fundamentally, Consciousness is a particular state of awareness. What do I mean by this? Awareness of what actually allows you feel and experience things in different ways with purpose for your overall well-being. You may be wondering why is this important? This is important because when you are aware of the different states that can be accessed at any time it becomes a valuable tool to achieve all the things you want and take control of your life while adding value to those around you. Below is a list of some of the primary states of consciousness with sublevel states.
Positive States of Consciousness
1. Joy
Euphoria: A state of intense happiness and excitement.
Happiness: A feeling of pleasure and contentment.
Excitement/Enthusiasm: A state of eager enjoyment or interest.
Contentment: A state of satisfaction and ease of mind.
2. Love
Passion: An intense, driving, or overmastering feeling of love or enthusiasm.
Affection: A gentle feeling of fondness or liking.
Compassion: Sympathetic concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.
Trust: Firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.
3. Gratitude
Appreciation: Recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.
Thankfulness: Feeling or expressing gratitude; appreciative.
Recognition: Acknowledgment of the existence, validity, or legality of something.
Acknowledgment: Acceptance of the truth or existence of something.
4. Peace
Tranquility: The quality or state of being tranquil; calm.
Serenity: The state of being calm, peaceful, and untroubled.
Calmness: The state or quality of being free from agitation or strong emotion.
Relaxation: The state of being free from tension and anxiety.
5. Faith
Optimism: Hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something.
Positive Outlook: Expectation of good things happening in the future.
Expectation: A strong belief that something will happen or be the case.
Anticipation: The action of anticipating something; expectation or prediction.
6. Mindfulness
Presence: The state or fact of existing, occurring, or being present in a place or thing.
Awareness: Knowledge or perception of a situation or fact.
Focus: The center of interest or activity.
Attention: Notice taken of someone or something; the regarding of someone or something as interesting or important.
7. Pride
Self-Esteem: Confidence in one's own worth or abilities; self-respect.
Confidence: The feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.
Satisfaction: Fulfillment of one's wishes, expectations, or needs.
Recognition: Acknowledgment of the existence, validity, or legality of something.
8. Creativity
Innovation: The action or process of innovating; a new method, idea, product, etc.
Imagination: The faculty or action of forming new ideas, or images or concepts of external objects unpresent to the senses.
Inspiration: The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.
Curiosity: A strong desire to know or learn something.
9. Empowerment
Self-Efficacy: The belief in one's ability to succeed in specific situations or accomplish a task.
Confidence: The feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.
Motivation: The reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.
Encouragement: The action of giving someone support, confidence, or hope.
10. Spirituality
Transcendence: Existence or experience beyond the normal or physical level.
Sense of Purpose: A person's sense of resolve or determination.
Inner Peace: A state of being mentally and spiritually at peace, with enough knowledge and understanding to keep oneself strong in the face of discord or stress.
Connectedness: A feeling of belonging to or having affinity with a particular person or group.
Negative States of Consciousness
1. Fear
Terror: Extreme fear.
Panic: Sudden uncontrollable fear or anxiety, often causing wildly unthinking behavior.
Anxiety: A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome.
Nervousness: Easily agitated or alarmed; tending to be anxious; highly strung.
2. Anger
Rage: Violent, uncontrollable anger.
Frustration: The feeling of being upset or annoyed as a result of being unable to change or achieve something.
Irritation: The state of feeling annoyed, impatient, or slightly angry.
Annoyance: The feeling or state of being annoyed; irritation.
3. Sadness
Despair: The complete loss or absence of hope.
Grief: Deep sorrow, especially that caused by someone's death.
Melancholy: A feeling of pensive sadness, typically with no obvious cause.
Disappointment: Sadness or displeasure caused by the non-fulfillment of one's hopes or expectations.
4. Shame
Humiliation: The action of humiliating someone or the state of being humiliated.
Guilt: The fact of having committed a specified or implied offense or crime.
Embarrassment: A feeling of self-consciousness, shame, or awkwardness.
Self-Doubt: Lack of confidence in oneself and one's abilities.
5. Jealousy
Envy: A feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck.
Resentment: Bitter indignation at having been treated unfairly.
Bitterness: Anger and disappointment at being treated unfairly; resentment.
Insecurity: Uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence.
6. Loneliness
Isolation: The process or fact of isolating or being isolated.
Disconnection: Lack of connection; disunion.
Solitude: The state or situation of being alone.
Apathy: Lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.
7. Confusion
Disorientation: The condition of having lost one's sense of direction.
Perplexity: Inability to deal with or understand something complicated or unaccountable.
Uncertainty: The state of being uncertain.
Indecision: The inability to make a decision quickly.
8. Helplessness
Powerlessness: Lack of ability, influence, or power.
Vulnerability: The quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally.
Dependence: The state of relying on or being controlled by someone or something else.
Apathy: Lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.
9. Overwhelm
Burnout: Physical or mental collapse caused by overwork or stress.
Stress: A state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.
Fatigue: Extreme tiredness resulting from mental or physical exertion or illness.
Restlessness: The inability to rest or relax as a result of anxiety or boredom.
10. Boredom
Apathy: Lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.
Lack of Interest: Absence of interest or curiosity.
Monotony: Lack of variety and interest; tedious repetition and routine.
